HAPPY BIRTHDAY, VANESSA!

I am thrilled to be celebrating another milestone! Life and love has been good to me, and guess what?! I have no legitimate complaints.

I have been blessed with good health, peace of mind, a fantastic life partner, and with loving family and friends.  I am so excited about 2018! This year is definitely the beginning of a wonderful period in my life.

For my birthday, I’ve decided to do three of the Maybelline Vivid Hot Lacquer lip gloss looks to celebrate my new beginning.  I have another two Maybelline Vivid Hot Lacquer colours to post, and I promise, I will post them shortly.

The Perfect Glow

Hello Beautiful People!

Yes, I do love makeup!  Yes, I do enjoy making people look and feel beautiful. I am a MAC Cosmetics Pro Member, this is an absolutely high end cosmetics brand; however,  recently I have been browsing around and purchasing some drugstore cosmetics for my makeup bag.

I will be doing a few beauty posts on my recent drugstore hauls, starting with two CoverGirl Vitalist Healthy Glow Highlighters named sunkissed  04 and sundown 05.

The CoverGirl Vitalist Healthy Glow Highlighters have a smooth, silky doughy consistency. The two highlighters  I’ve purchased are sunkissed  04 and sundown 05; they are both gorgeous on dark skinned tones.  The sunkissed 04 highlighter is a peachie/bronze colour, which gives an attractive warm glow to the face; sundown 05, is  darker, it is a metallic/rose colour, which gives your face an amazing shimmer.  I used my MAC 191 foundation brush to apply the highlighters after my foundation was set, I placed the products on my cheek bones, my nose bridge, my forehead and my chin.

I  am pleased with the results and would likely use these highlighters again! I would definitely recommend these highlighters, it will give you a “beat face” and an illuminating fresh glow.

Awesome Vintage Jewelry

Hello Again, Beautiful People!

I adored this beautiful vintage jewelry piece I modeled for world renowned, and North America’s premier Jewelry collector, Carole Tanenbaum.  Carole, recently held a show Downtown, Toronto, and the event was absolutely remarkable! The bright, eye-catching, canary yellow piece I am wearing is definitely an exquisite work of art, made for a woman who dares to be bold and beautiful.

Carole’s collection includes, Victorian period, designers, limited edition, and one-of-a-kind pieces. You can also enjoy jewelry by Chanel, Schiapparelli, Hobe, and Miriam Haskell, and a vast collection of Bakelite, resin, Scottish and Czech items.

Carole has been collecting vintage jewelry for over 25 years and has over 30,000 exquisite pieces.

If it’s vintage……It is fabulous!

I am a vintage woman, and I have an appreciation for the beauty, quality and exquisite craftsmanship of yesteryear.  I came across an elegant, vintage, Royal Doulton “Yorkshire Rose,” china set at  Antiques on QueenDowntown Port Hope, ON; I absolutely fell in love with it.

This high quality Royal Doulton set has 12 dinner plates, 12 dessert plates, 12 bread and butter plates, 12 cups and saucers, 4 fruit bowls, a tea pot, a platter, an oval vegetable dish and a cream and sugar set.

I also came across a beautiful hand made lace table cloth, circa 1940, and the labour of love along with the intricate details were stunning. Additionally, I added  a gorgeous linen napkin set, circa 1937, and decided to do an informal table setting  – the results were beautiful!

Here are some great tips for setting an informal dinner table for your family Mother’s Day brunch or any other special occasion.

  1.  Place your forks and napkins on the left of your service plate and your salad plate.  The salad fork should be placed on the outside, followed by the dinner fork, which is placed next to your plates.
  2. On the right side of your plates, place your soup spoon on the outer end, followed by your teaspoon and your dinner knife, which is placed near to the plates.
  3. Your cup and saucer, your water and wine glasses are placed on the right hand side of your plate settings. The water glass is placed to the upper right, followed by your red wine and white wine glasses.

I completed my table décor with a signed Waterford crystal vase, and two crystal candleholders, circa, 1920.

There you have it Beautiful People!  Happy table setting.

I truly appreciate your continued support and love for the blog.  Wishing you all a Happy Mother’s Day filled with love, joy and laughter.

No fuss….just clean and simple

Hello Beautiful People!

close up #2a

I like the two for one coverage I get when I apply the MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation, in addition to the impressive matte finish that creates an attractive, flawless face. MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation contains both silica – which absorbs the oils, and talc which absorbs the moisture (and prevents caking).  My face maintains a fresh, clean, vibrant and flawless look throughout the day, and lasts at least eight hours before a touch up is necessary. This is definitely a product I would recommend for your beauty bag!

close up #1aa

I use the latex sponge which comes in the packaging; it is soft and flexible and can pick up a generous amount of product with one swipe. I also use my MAC brush #134, to apply the Studio Fix when I want a sparse amount of product on my brush for a natural, radiant, flawless finish.  I was so pleased with the results of the MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation – NW45 I was wearing, as it complimented my neutral, understated makeup… and kept it on point!

On Saturday my husband and I went out for a date night; it was such a beautiful evening! The food was extraordinary, and the service was impeccable. The Italian restaurant is tucked away by the harbor side, and is possibly one of the best kept secrets in this quaint town 60 minutes east of Toronto.

My 2 Summer Favs (Lipsticks in Nude & Bold)

Hello Beautiful People!

My two summer loves – MAC Lipsticks in Blankety and Ruby Woo, they are two fabulous lipsticks.  I went from a nude fresh clean look to a bright bold look and they were so fun.

MAC Lipstick Ruby W00 – Bright blue red lipstick, (Retro matte)

Here’s how I created the perfect lips with these two stunning neutral and bold lipsticks.

  1.  I exfoliated my lips (I used a toothbrush to do the job!).
  2. I used the MAC Prep + Prime, which really prepared my lips for a smooth flawless application.
  3. I lined my lips using MAC Cherry lip liner with the MAC Ruby Woo lipstick, and MAC Cork lip liner to compliment my  MAC Lipstick Blankety.

A Noteworthy Birthday!

Hello Beautiful People!

This year’s birthday was pretty special for me, I ended a decade of an amazing journey of true womanhood. Overall, life has been good! I have had to make a lot of lemonades with the lemons life served, but I was blessed in that decade, I accomplished so much, and more importantly, I did not have to spend one day in a hospital bed.

So, I celebrated the beauty of life, the hope of a bright future, the discovery of the fountain of youth and the blessing of good health with my husband, Kelvin; our birthdays are only two days a part. We went high in the skies of Toronto, which is symbolic of how we intend to soar in the next decade of our lives.

We dined at Canoe Restaurant, located on the 54th floor of the TD Bank Tower, at               66 Wellington Street West, just west of Bay Street on the north side. We had a splendid time! Please take a moment enjoy our birthday experience with us. Bon Appetit!

Barbados – Bayley’s Plantation

I recently travelled to Barbados with my husband on a business/pleasure trip, to discover one of the jewels of the Caribbean. Barbados is 21 miles (34 km) by 14 miles (23 km), the population is about 300,000, with the residents residing throughout the eleven parishes on the island.

There are two seasons in Barbados; the wet season, which runs May thru December and the dry season, which runs December thru April. The average daytime high temperature in Barbados is 86 F (30 C). The temperature was definitely a welcome relief after leaving the stinging cold and feeling the warmth of the Bajan sun.

The currency in Barbados is the Barbadian dollar and the currency exchange is US$1 to BD2$.

Kelvin and I stayed with our relatives, the Grant/Kellman families on Bayley’s Plantation (this is a private residence and not available for public tours), it is located in St. Philip Parish, east on the island. Bayley’s Plantation was set up by Joseph Bayley, between 1719 – 1738. He owned 350 African slaves and by 1812 had expanded his plantation to 444 acres.

World renowned recording artist, Eddy Grant known for his hits Electric Avenue and Romancing The Stone, among many others, presently owns and resides on Bayleys Plantation, the largest former slave plantation in Barbados. The main plantation house still stands today; this is where Eddy Grant has his recording studio.

As I treaded on the sacred grounds, the experience was quite surreal sensing the curiosity, being given the authorization and feeling the warm welcome of the ancestral spirits. I felt hope and comfort as I stood next to the original slave chapel; I experienced a void as I sat under the massive tree where slaves were “hung like strange fruit.” And while sitting in original slave dwelling quarters, I was overwhelmed by the unrecorded stories of disappointments, the feelings of fear, sorrow, pain, loss and hopelessness. If only the walls would tell me the secrets!

The plantation is important in the history of Barbados because of the April 16, 1816 revolt in Barbados against the white plantation owners led by a slave named Bussa. He was taken out of Africa and brought to Bayley’s Plantation;  Bussa led the largest slave uprising of 400 against troops of the First West India Regiment, which began at Bayley’s Plantation and spread to other neighbouring plantations. Bussa was killed in the revolt; however, he remains a hero in Barbados for his fight for the freedom of enslaved Africans (Bussa’s Rebellion).

Over 70,000 Barbadians of African descent took to the streets singing the Barbadian folk song:

Lick an Lock-up Done Wid, Hurray fuh Jin-Jin (Queen Victoria). De Queen come from England to set we free Now Lick an Lock-up Done Wid, Hurray fuh Jin-Jin” (old.antislavery.org)

It was a privilege to spend time on sacred grounds, where freedom fighters once lived, and died fighting for what we take for granted today. I can say with assurance, their names have been recorded on the right side of history; for which we continue to salute and celebrate them.
