I was a guest of Mayor John Tory, at a special breakfast on July 10, as part of The International Economic Forum of The Americas – Toronto Global Forum. The formal portion of the breakfast was a discussion between Mayor Tory and three guest panelists regarding business development, investment and trade, and opportunities to build further relationships between Toronto and the Americas. The guest panelists were Alexander Mora, Foreign Trade Minister to Costa Rica,  Hans Schulz, Vice-President for the Private Sector and Non-Sovereign Guaranteed Operations, Inter-American Development Bank, and  Romaine Seguin, President of UPS Americas Region.

At the venue where The International Economic Forum of The Americas – Toronto Global Forum was held, it presented a unique opportunity to network and grow your professional base.  I am sure more than 50% of the persons attending the forum had their business cards with them – not a bad idea. However, when it comes to you and your business cards, exhibiting good business card etiquette usually serves well.

Here are some  tips for business card etiquette:

  • Do not go up to a senior executive and ask for a business card; you wait until they give you one.
  • Give your card with your name facing the person, without your thumb covering your name.
  • Do not take a business card that is soiled and present it to someone, even if it is your last card.
  • Do not pass out your business cards during a meal.
  • Always have your cards with you because you never know!

Wow thank you Vanessa for such great tips on business cards.Where not too hand them out having them on you at all times.The one I like most. if even it is your last card and it is soiled do not hand it out . So let us keep them all clean business people .Once again thank you Vanessa you are doing a great job.
