My 2 Summer Favs (Lipsticks in Nude & Bold)

Hello Beautiful People!

My two summer loves – MAC Lipsticks in Blankety and Ruby Woo, they are two fabulous lipsticks.  I went from a nude fresh clean look to a bright bold look and they were so fun.

MAC Lipstick Ruby W00 – Bright blue red lipstick, (Retro matte)

Here’s how I created the perfect lips with these two stunning neutral and bold lipsticks.

  1.  I exfoliated my lips (I used a toothbrush to do the job!).
  2. I used the MAC Prep + Prime, which really prepared my lips for a smooth flawless application.
  3. I lined my lips using MAC Cherry lip liner with the MAC Ruby Woo lipstick, and MAC Cork lip liner to compliment my  MAC Lipstick Blankety.

As always, thank you for supporting my blog!

There is a delicate balance when applying makeup to mature skin; to achieve a fresh, glowing, vibrant face, it requires patience, the right products and skills.  Here are the steps I follow to create that polished finish for mature makeup.

1.  PREPARE THE SKIN:

  • Mature skin needs to be hydrated because it tends to be drier and dehydrated.  The areas to hydrate are the eyes and the nose as this will improve the overall makeup application.

2.  CONCEALER:

  • Choose a concealer that has a moisturizing formula, apply it to the inner sockets, the inner lids, the marionette lines (lines that run from the corners of the mouth, down along the chin) and to the deep chin creases.
  • Avoid putting concealer on eye bags or on crows feet; however, you may conceal underneath the eye bag if there is a pronounced dark circle.
  • Do stipple (blend out), the concealer over dark shadows on the face to get a smooth even canvas.

3.  FOUNDATION:

  • Great foundation gives a youthful appearance, soften lines and sets a velvety finish. If you have not achieved this outcome, you have either chosen the incorrect makeup formula: Oil free, oil absorbing or powder foundation, which are too drying for the skin; or you have applied too much foundation or the foundation formula is too thick.
  • Remove excess oil from the skin by blotting it with a tissue to avoid using too much powder.

4.  POWDER:

  • Powder should be applied sparingly to mature skin; overuse will bring attention to fine lines, which will have a cakey finish. For a beautiful finish, go over the skin with a clean powder puff, as this will blend together the powder and foundation nicely.

5.  EYESHADOW:

  • It’s all about colour selection! Choose high contrast colours for an attractive, eye catching look.
  • Select medium light colours, they help mature eyes look lively and vibrant.  Matte medium dark eye contour on puffy creases works fabulous! It lessens the puffiness and gives the eye a younger, lighter look.
  • Rich colours like red and violet will appear as a black eye or bruises, also pearly colours and intense iridescence textures on mature creases ages the skin.
  • Drawing crease and adding eye contour can be tricky when it comes to mature skin. By lifting the crease at the centre it allows you to draw the crease in higher.

6.  EYELINER:

  • Eyeliner is important for defining the eye and giving it new life.  When lining mature eyes, gently pull the skin taut and release as you deposit the product. When the skin is pulled taut, it allows the product to be deposited nearer to the lash line; however, when the skin is released, it shows the artist  how the line will appear on the eye.

7.  EYEBROWS:

  • Focus on the mid and the upper portion of the brow when filling in the colour, you will end up with classic looking brows. When you fill in the remaining lower portion of the brow, you will create amazing looking brows.

8.  CHEEKS:

  • The zygomatic area of a mature face tends to lose its firm, plump appearance.  Be cautious when countering this area.
  • Mature skin tends to have broken capillaries on the cheeks, so help diminish the redness from surfacing through the concealer in this area, do not use red hued cheek blushes.

9.  LIPS:

  • To create a neat and straight lip line on mature lips, a slight smile is required; this allows the corrective lip line to be drawn effortlessly. A smile will taut the skin around the mouth making it easier to draw a defined line.

Well, that’s it for now beautiful people. Thanks for stopping in and reading about “Mature & Looking Fabulous!” Don’t forget to like and share my blog with your friends and family. Your support is greatly appreciated. xox

The Colours of Autumn

Hello Again Beautiful People!

Autumn is such an amazing season, and I have been out and about enjoying the splendor of the stunning colours of nature. I have been walking with my camera through High Park, Humber Bay Park, as well as the beautiful countryside north of Toronto, shooting some of the majestic colours mother nature showed off.  Walk with me and enjoy “The Colours of Autumn” created by nature, as well as my attempt to mimic the colours through my artistic makeup application.

All colours derive from three fundamental colours called primary colours. The three primary colours are yellow, red and blue; however, mixing primary colours will create new colours called secondary colours.   Secondary colours are orange, violet and green, they are intense and vivid as primary colours.

Yellow is a warm colour, blue is a cool colour and red is considered a neutral colour.  When red is mixed with yellow it becomes a warm colour; likewise when red is mixed with blue, it becomes a cool colour.  Brown is a balance of primary and secondary colours, while black and white are not considered colours. They are used to lighten or darken colours.  If you want to tint a colour add white, if you wish to tone a colour add grey and if you want to shade, add black.

As professional Makeup Artist, I often transform makeup by manipulating the hue, intensity and value of products to create fantastic colour variations. The hue is the actual colour, the intensity is the brightness or dullness of the colour and the value is the lightness or darkness of the colour.

There you have it Beautiful People, be artistic and  create “A Burst of Colours,” and you will be amazed by your creativity and originality.

Vanessa wearing MAC Taupe Lipstick

We are 41 days into summer and I am having an awesome time so far. I am playing lots of tennis and with my serves and ground strokes on point, I couldn’t be happier.  I have been going on daily nature walks, appreciating the picturesque landscapes, breathing fresh, crisp, clean air and thinking “Life is so good!”  So, how is your summer going?  Let me know what you have been up to.

Ok….Let’s take a look at some “Lips that Says….Ooh, Ahh, Nice!” featuring MAC’s Lipsticks in Taupe, Twig and ‘O’.  These are some of the nude lipsticks I have been wearing, however, I will be transitioning to some vibrant colours just for the fun of it.

For fantastic results when applying your lipstick, here are some great tips:

  1. Your lips will love you for priming them first!  Priming moisturizes your lips and gives your product colour, vibrancy and longevity.
  2. Always sharpen your lip liner to achieve well defined lines, and also for sanitary purposes.
  3. When lining your lips, use quick effortless strokes.
  4. Use a lip brush to apply your lipstick, it will give you a polished finish.

My 2 Nude Summer Delight

Hello Again Beautiful People!
We have two days until the official start of summer and I think it is going to be hot, hot and sizzling! So, during the muggy, sticky days of summer, when I want to look natural, fresh, light and radiant, I am going to reach for two lipsticks I recently purchased from the MAC store, Sherway Gardens Mall, in Toronto, named Taupe and Twig. The lipsticks are priced CAD $19.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I am a NW 45 (MAC ref.) and both lipsticks compliment my skin tone very well, they give me that perfect nude look I desire. Taupe is a matte lipstick and I love lipsticks with a matte finish! Taupe is super creamy with a flushed brown colour, this is perfect for everyday wear. Twig is a satin finish lipstick, which means it does not have an intense glossy finish but strikes a perfect balance of smooth and shine. Twig is a lovely soft, gentle brownish-pink colour, I am certain you will adore this lipstick. I always use MAC Prep + Prime Lip before applying my lipstick for added lip moisture, smoothness and for the longevity it provides.
I will post pictures of me wearing Taupe and Twig lipsticks shortly, until then, have a fantastic summer and stay stunning, Beautiful People!  Thank you kindly for your continued support for the blog, it means so much.

It’s The Bahamas…Are You Warm or Cool?

Hello Beautiful People!

The Bahamas is definitely the premier tourist destination where the scenic colours of aquamarine waters, powdered white beaches, clear blue skies, blooming yellow elder trees and the golden sunsets reveals paradise.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

In makeup artistry, colours are also significant, it determines whether your skin tone is warm or cool . Warm colours are earthy and natural and compliments skin undertones that are yellow, golden or peach; cool colours are icy, jeweled-toned and vivid, which flatters skin undertones that are red, blue or pink. Do you know your colour? I do mine, I am so cool!

Here is a simple test you can take to determine if you are warm or cool.  Have a look at the inside of your wrist, are your veins green or blue? If your veins are green you are warm, if your veins are blue you are cool.

Cool & Warm Colour Chart

Great! Now that you have identified the colours that flatter your skin tone, you should be feeling confident and looking pretty amazing this summer.

Here are a few of my go to vibrant MAC Lipstick colours I will be wearing this summer – Vegas Volt, Lickable, Morange, So Chaud, and Candy Yum Yum.

Well, there you have it Beautiful People! Now that you know you are either warm or cool, be happy because “Happy Girls are the Prettiest!” ~Audrey Hepburn~  Your overwhelming love and support of my blog still amazes me!  Thank you so much Beautiful People.

For Noticeably Beautiful Eyes

Hello Again Beautiful People!
Spring has definitely not sprung here in Canada; we are still in the single digits! However, wherever you are, I hope you are enjoying great weather as my friends and family are in The Bahamas. They are unequivocally declaring “It’s Better In the Bahamas!”  My good friend Ta’Shar Cuccurullo has been posting some epic spring sunrise pictures from her oceanfront condo in The Bahamas, I just had to share two of them with you.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

In Last week’s blog, I dared you to be “Bright & Brilliant …. It’s spring!” So, as promised, I wanted to feature two products I use personally and professionally to keep my eyeshadow, and my clients eyeshadow looking fabulous all day. Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion and MAC Cosmetics Vibrancy Eye Primers are two good eye primers, but I must admit, I am biased toward the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion because it is non-creasing, it has superb longevity and the smooth, clean finish it creates is amazing.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Here are some tips just for you!

1. Eye primers can be applied using your finger or a concealer brush
2. Only a pea size amount of conclear  is needed for each eye
3. The eye primer should be applied on the eyelids and up to the brow bone (under the eye if you are going to deposit product there)
4. The eye is primed first, concealed and followed by depositing your eye colours

There you have it Beautiful People! Now, go on and have fun painting your eye colours, you’ve got the secret “For Noticeably Beautiful Eyes.”

Paint them Nude, Bold and Beautiful

Greetings Beautiful People! I was thrilled to celebrate “International Women’s Day” over the weekend, marked by a powerful theme ‘Inspiring Change.”  Let us continue to be an agent of change through our actions and by the words we release from our lips.

In last week’s post I discussed “Happy Lips”.  This week, I want to celebrate lips, whether they are thick, thin, wide round, straight or crooked.  They are your lips and it identifies your unique characteristic, so celebrate your lips by painting them Nude, Bold and Beautiful!

To celebrate my lips this week, I stopped by MAC Cosmetics and purchased two amazing lipsticks in colours Naked Bud and Heroine.  I did a brown smokey everyday look with nude lips using the Naked Bud lipstick and popping colours with the Heroine lipstick.

Here are a few tips to consider when painting your lips Nude, Bold and Beautiful.

  1. Start with a lip primer
  2. Always sharpen your lip liner before using to achieve well defined lines and also for sanitary purposes
  3. Use effortless quick strokes when applying the lip pencil
  4. Use a lip brush to paint your lips beautiful

Hello Again Beautiful People!  I am absolutely happy…..what about you? I’ve been snapping my fingers, tapping my feet, clapping my hands, flashing a gleaming smile with my “Happy Lips” to Pharrell Williams’ #1 hit “Happy.” This is definitely a happy, upbeat song.

When I am smiling from ear to ear and feeling completely happy, I have the confidence in knowing my  “Happy Lips” are primed with MAC Cosmetics Prep & Prime. This is a colour free base I wear under my lips to enhance the colour of my lipstick and to give my lips a flawless finish.  Additionally, I use the Prep & Prime to keep my lipstick intact and to prevent it from wearing off.  This is a must have product for my makeup kit because it  keeps my lips moisturized and hydrated, especially when I travel back home to The Bahamas where it is sunny and humid.

Do you want Happy Lips? The secret is to Prep & Prime! So, keep smiling, stay beautiful and be happy.  You can have “Happy Lips,” too!
